Project Introduction

On January 27, 2004, our 6th grade students began their final project for the second trimester. The project began with our students brainstorming and identifying seven categories to research a culture.  They identified seven categories: government, economics, the arts, social structure, religion, geography and science/medicine. Students were then given the option to study either Greece, Rome or Egypt. Once student were put into their culture groups, students were divided into groups of 3 or 4 and each group decided which category they wanted to research. Next, students were to come up with a good question to help them research their category from different perspectives.

For this project, students were given approximately 25 hours during class to work on this project. Although there were many points given during the project, the majority of the points were given for students to complete a written paper thoroughly answering their original question and a presentation.
