The River School after-school photography class will be featured as part of Voices,a new art exhibit opening at the First Street branch of Bank of America. Students from art programs at Bel Aire Park Elementary School, Blue Oak School, grape leaves studio, Napa Valley Language Academy, River School Photography program, and Sunrise Montessori School will show their artwork as part of each program's culminating project. The six different art programs feature photography, painting, and three dimensional work created by the children. Within each program, the students' artwork demonstrates how differently each student interprets assignments given by the art teacher.
The objective of the River School photography class is for students to learn to see with their cameras as an extension of their senses. Seeing, in the broadest sense, means using one's senses, intellect, and emotions.
The class begins with the fundamentals of photography. It is first necessary that the students become technically proficient photographers. They learn how to create an image using this light tight box, the camera. Once they understand how to make intentional choices with their camera, the fun begins. They learn about compositional rules, breaking the rules, and expressing themselves through visual design.
This exhibit represents the photographic work of some of the students in the class.
A reception honoring the student artists will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. at Bank of America, 1700 First Street, in downtown Napa. For more information, please call Suzanne Becker Bronk, River School Photography teacher, at 707.257.1513.
