Our Vision for the Students

Our vision for the students is one who has strong sense of their unique self and display qualities of self-confidence; is self-motivated, self-disciplined, and self-reliant; has a strong sense of community: is compassionate, cooperative, and supportive.

This vision balances the two needs of humans: the need for significance and the need for connection. Our students cannot have a strong sense of themselves without the support of the community of students in our school. They feel safe to be "who they are," when their fellow students support them in class or the playground instead of demeaning them. This translates to better learning because they are not afraid to ask questions, seek help when confused, and take risks intellectually.

This section showcases our students. They are our best advertisement. In the photos, you will see their engagement, aliveness, and joy. You will see the goals of our mission actualized in their work, in their reflections, in their creative endeavors.

The following poem captures our process and result:

Come to the edge, he said.
They said: We are afraid.
Come to the edge, he said.
They came.
He pushed them . . . and they flew.

~ Guillaume Apollinaire
