- Began Teaching at River School
- 1996
- Taught Before
- 15 years in Hawaii at Ho'ala School where the foundational ideas of our school were born
- What is important to you in education?
- What's important to me is having an environment where all the participants be willing to learn not just content knowledge, but also about themselves because who we are is far more impactful than what we say to our students. So being conscious, and to continually to grow in self-awareness is a must for teachers at our school. As my mentor and creator of these foundational ideas, Sr. Joan, said many years ago when I first started teaching 1973, "You don't teach subjects; you teach who you are."
- What Defines the River School to you?
- The River School is a community of teachers, parents, and students who support each other in growing in an environment where mistakes are seen as opportunities to learn, where people take responsibility for their lives, where we try our best to model the behaviors we want our students to learn. We are a community that models lifelong learning.
